My oh My! I got my Mica matters addressed this week with a trip to Taos NM. How I LOve and miss that shimmer, sparkle, and lusterous material. I used to go into the mines when I lived there…..and collected this precious substances offered from the earth, then ground it up into fine powder to add to my paints. This was actually the first step to my adventures in paint making! Mainly this mineral rock is used for makeup….
THere is another awesome use for it that the Taosenos display. THis is mixing chunks of the Mica into their mix of natural plaster. Clay, sand, pigments and water create some incredibly soft and structural outcome to live in. THe mica adds flick and flare to the mundane and organic dirt feel of natural plaster.
I reunited with this primal and pre-historic way of building with earth in my favorite home of the past, the Dome on Three Peaks Mesa in Taos. Staying here a night re-ignited and inspired my love for earthen materials….now I want to make paint and pigments again that are non-toxic, sparkle, and glow!! The Southwest is quite a GEm resource for clay pigments and minerals!! Glad to be here in all the COlors and Aliveness!!
