I have begun a series of portraits inspired by my harvested and handmade paints. The paints are water based, non-toxic, local, and organic. I love how active, live, and aromatic painting with these oddly textured paints is. It is a nice challenge for me who has been painting a Long time now. Combining my love and connection with plants with my passion for painting has proved very rewarding and fruitful. I am excited to have begun this fusion. If it is not obvious, Lady Hibiscus is painted with almost all hibiscus paint and Mzzzz. Mustard was made with mustard seed paint and blue green algae. Rosie to come next!
This is an on going series of watercolor paintings. I began painting these in Florida and moved on down south to the Caribbean to find more varieties of these amazing exposed roots. I find them particularly inspiring and suggestive of all sorts of things. I love the graceful and dynamic quality of how they persist in the quest for water and life. Painting these feels essential like that! It also feels grounding to know You can have sturdy roots and still be so in-motion.
