I am not sure if it is just me, but this spice seems to be good for nearly EVERYTHING! Turmeric is a powerful medicinal plant root of the Curcuma Longa( native to Indonesia). Just the vibrancy of the color alone is healing. It is great as a disinfectant externally if you pack it into your wounds they will heal miraculously. Internally the spice is great to heat up food with a slight peppery flavor. It works internally as an anti-inflammatory as well as a powerful anti-oxidant protecting cells against free radicals and cancer. Turmeric also works to detox your body and reliably clears up your skin.
A few years ago I began dying fabric with the spice that I had begun to buy in bulk. The warmth and richness of the Indian Yellow color really is potent and it lasts. Being a painter and a real colorist, I decided I should integrate it into my painting. My first exploration was to mix it with my canvas primer, rabbit skin glue. This turned out to be fun, like painting with hot, colored wax on raw canvas. I also have tried painting on top with more turmeric paint as well as some other mixed colors.
Another interesting tid bit about this root is it contains Iron and B vitamins which help to lift your mood and be joyous.
Bringing the root/spice into your life will most likely provide more Joy and wellness to your life. Non-toxic and cheap paint has certainly been a benefit I’ve found from Turmeric. I continue to enjoy tapping the colorful roots and working in harmony with those plant species around us.
